More Than Words

On my drive in to work this morning, the song More Than Words came on. I have always loved this song. It was released when I was in high school. I didn’t give much thought to the lyrics of the song back then. I am officially old because the lyrics are appalling…

Saying “I love you”
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It’s not that I want you
Not to say, but if you only knew
How easy
It would be to show me how you feel
More than words
Is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn’t have to say
That you love me
‘Cause I’d already know
What would you do
If my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
This guy just wants to have sex with this girl! I know. That’s shocking. I tell my daughter that if a guy ever said something this ridiculous to her that she should punch him in the throat. THAT sends a wordless message too. I didn’t pay for 5 years of karate & she didn’t become a 2nd degree black belt for nothing. Then my daughter will remind me how dirty Rick Springfield songs are.
Since I’m not some radical feminist, I will say that this song is still nice to listen to & nostalgic for me…but the message does suck. In other news, I have created a pretty great playlist on Spotify – over 23 hours of music mostly from the 70s, 80s & 90s… with a mixture of more current stuff with a few REALLY old songs thrown in too… Check it out here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4Gw5NF7uNqz3AKJrM0b7u6?si=jgMzMou8SVi07iW3wIscng or listen using the player on this page.
