On my drive in to work this morning, the song More Than Words came on. I have always loved this song. It was released when I was in high school. I didn’t give much thought to the lyrics of the song back then. I am officially old because the lyrics are appalling…

Saying “I love you”
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It’s not that I want you
Not to say, but if you only knew
How easy
It would be to show me how you feel
More than words
Is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn’t have to say
That you love me
‘Cause I’d already know
What would you do
If my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
This guy just wants to have sex with this girl! I know. That’s shocking. I tell my daughter that if a guy ever said something this ridiculous to her that she should punch him in the throat. THAT sends a wordless message too. I didn’t pay for 5 years of karate & she didn’t become a 2nd degree black belt for nothing. Then my daughter will remind me how dirty Rick Springfield songs are.
Since I’m not some radical feminist, I will say that this song is still nice to listen to & nostalgic for me…but the message does suck. In other news, I have created a pretty great playlist on Spotify – over 23 hours of music mostly from the 70s, 80s & 90s… with a mixture of more current stuff with a few REALLY old songs thrown in too… Check it out here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4Gw5NF7uNqz3AKJrM0b7u6?si=jgMzMou8SVi07iW3wIscng or listen using the player on this page.

If you hadn’t guessed by now, I am a pretty big Rick Springfield fan. It started when I was 9, grew into full blown obsession through junior high and then kinda cooled as we got into the 90s and I discovered country music. I had always harbored affection for my tween crush much to the chagrin of my late husband who loved to tease me about it. But I didn’t care because my little affair of the heart with Rick Springfield would later become a place of refuge when my husband died.

One of the things I did when I lost him was find hobbies to distract me. Photography was a skill that I had never totally mastered but something I loved to do from when I was a child to during my college years when I helped manage a photo lab. I really like to take pictures and if I am taking pictures of Rick Springfield? Yeah, where do I sign up?

In April 2012, I was invited to attend a film festival in Orlando, FL to help promote the Rick Springfield Fan Documentary – AN AFFAIR OF THE HEART. I had helped them with their website and graphic design and one of the perks was being a VIP at some of the gatherings. One such gathering was a concert that weekend at a local concert hall & that is where I snapped this photo:

Well, this caught Rick’s eye and to this day it’s one of my favorite photos of him. I have been fortunate to take tens of thousands of photos of Rick since then and have been asked many times by fans if I would ever sell my photos. Well, I’ve pulled some of my favorites from the vault and have put them into a gallery here on the website. They will be made available for purchase by request only. I won’t put every image I have taken there but I will include my very favorite ones. If you’re a Rick collector, maybe you’ll find something you like there.

Fun Fact: My “claim to fame” is that a picture that I took of Rick & his original band from Australia, ZOOT became the cover of their reunion album in 2011/2012. Their reunion tour never came to be because of the death of Darryl Cotton (lead singer). So sad. I am so honored my photo was used as their cover.
